Overview & Highlights

Welcome to Restaurant La Ponton, a culinary gem nestled along the picturesque banks of the Dunarea River in Giurgiu, Romania. This charming eatery effortlessly combines a delightful dining experience with the serene beauty of its natural surroundings. With a focus on fresh seafood and local fish varieties, it’s no wonder that patrons rave about their meals here.

As you step into La Ponton, you are immediately embraced by a warm atmosphere complemented by live music, which enhances the overall dining experience. Patrons like Iuliana Marin have described it as a place where the plates are abundant with food, leaving you satisfied and eager for more. The welcoming ambiance is not just about the food; it’s a space where laughter and conversation flow easily, making it an ideal spot for both casual dinners and special celebrations.

For seafood lovers, Restaurant La Ponton is a must-visit. If you share the tastes of diners like Alfred Bacos, who passionately recommends the diverse seafood options available, you will find yourself delighted by dishes like the rave-worthy fried fish. While some guests, such as Vasilis Kouloumperis, noted that the food may not be extraordinary, they still found it more than satisfactory, complemented by exceptional service. This balance ensures that even if not every dish wows, the overall experience is enjoyable and fulfilling.

The terrace offers stunning views of the Danube, making every meal here a scenic escape. However, as summer rolls in, a few diners like Emil Vaduva pointed out the pesky mosquitoes. Not to worry, the staff’s friendliness and attentiveness can help you forget any discomfort. Indeed, it’s this engaging service that leaves an impression, as highlighted by patrons who interact with the staff, creating a unique rapport that enhances the dining experience.

No visit would be complete without sampling the papanași, a traditional Romanian dessert that has garnered attention for its inviting appearance and deliciousness. As mentioned by Queen Rennee, this sweet treat is not to be missed during your visit. Even if your tummy has no room left after indulging in a meal of fried fish and storceag, the temptation to revisit for that dessert is sure to linger in your mind.

Overall, Restaurant La Ponton is more than just a place to eat; it’s a destination invigorated by good food, warm service, and a tranquil atmosphere. With ample parking and no reservations required, it invites you for spontaneous visits, transforming a casual outing into a memorable experience along the beautiful riverbanks. Good atmosphere, with live music and fresh food. Do not miss it! The plates are full of food.

Good food, as long as you like eating fish and seafood mostly, friendly staff. The only downside are the mosquitoes in the summer. If you want to see a menu in english see the QR code in the picture

Absolutely recommend for any fish lover! You are going to find lots of varieties regarding seafood and local fish! As well as the atmosphere is a very enjoyable one, not too stiff, very relaxing!

I loved this place! A tiny bit more modern than Perla, more elegant, with a big terrace. I had the best FRAPPE ever! Creamy, delicious. The espresso is a lower quality type of coffee, it was not that good. We loved our waiter, a nice man "from the old guard" how us, romanian people like to say. This means he was "anointed with all the ointments" :))) very communicative, he observed us immediately, he joked with us and we were like "take our money!" Good job! honestly. This is the type of staff every restaurant should have.A good connoiseur of the costumers. We had lunch at Perla so we couldn't eat at La Ponton but we asked for takeaway just to try the food and i must say we weren't disappointed. The roe salad, delicious! The storceag the same! But the FRIED FISHHHH, OMG! I can't remember what type of fish it was, but we literally fought for every bite, my husband and I We didn't even have the patience to eat it seated at the dining table, we ate it from the kitchen counter, standing. Congratulations! We will return to try other dishes too and especially for the "papanași", that we've seen being served at a table next to us and looked super inviting! It was a very pleasent experience. Last but not least, there is plenty of parking and reservation not needed. As i said for Perla too, these are ones of the few remaining locations where you can visit if you wake up in the morning with a wish for a relaxing getaway, without planning it a week ahead. Love it! Later edit : we came back and tried some more dishes : crap & somn fried, fish borsch, papanas.Everything was great, but the papanas had orange zest in it, i would have preffered it classic. It wasn't bad, it's just a personal preference.

Very nice place to enjoy the view of Danube. The food wasn't something special, but it was more than OK. And the service was great

It is a beautiful romantic restaurant, friendly staff, excellent food, worth visiting especially in the evening, I recommend it for all ages

I've been going to this place for years with my parents, and it never ceases to impress! The live music, the waiters, and the food quality are flawless! I really recommend the fish soup, as it's a special Romanian dish that you just must try. My American boyfriend adored it. It is, indeed, a bit on the pricey side, according to Romanian standards, but it's actually very decent for a foreigner.
